How to protect yourself from a heat wave in summer


Heat wave is long period of excessive heat than normal temperature which can stay at your area more than two days. In this time high humidity become part of excessive heat that can be harmful for you and your family too. In this heat wave lots of people die of diarrhea, heat stock, exhaustion and lots of diseases. But you can save yourself and your family too by taking some important flowing step as a result if you are staying cool area and then sudden coming heat wave will not be able to effect on you and your family too.



1.Prepare an emergency kit:
It will be good for you and your family too if you collect some basic emergency kit which can be fulfill at any dangerous situation for your family. Be sure your collected emergency kit will be sufficient more than 72 hours.

*You can collect a gallon of water for each person of your family for a single day.
*Easy to prepare food without any hassle.
*Essential medicine.
*Sanitary and hygiene items.
*Pet food
*Mobile with extra battery.
*Touch light
*First aid box

 
 
2.Family communication:
If you detach form your family for work then be sure your family know your contact number. You can prepare a contact card where your contact number will be written and you family will be able to contact you any time if they need you. A contact card is paper where contact number is stored instead of mobile. If you face mobile traffic problem then SMS can be helpful for you.


3.Take some basic training:
If your area already faced extreme wave then you should take some basic training which can be helpful later for you. You can take training from nearest local one. Obviously they can charge you some money but it’s nothing to your valuable life.

4.Look for vulnerable:
Heat wave is most vulnerable for children, overweight person, elder or older adults, sick people and your pet too. You should inform them about heat wave and its effect as a result they will be careful about heat wave and their life will be saved from dangerous heat wave.

5.Always track of local weather forecast:
it will be good for you if you track local weather forecast as a result you will be informed what is going on to you local area and also other.

6.Make your window’s air condition well fit:
If your home dose not have central air condition then you can well set your window’s air condition as a result cool air will be able to come in and hot air will be able to gone out and also your home will be always cool especially night time. You can use adjusting or box fan for this window’s air condition and be sure you are using this window’s air condition at night time when outside become cool and when sun rise then stop this window’s air condition.

 

7.Temporary window reflector:
You can warp a wood with foil or aluminium paper and then place it on your window’s glass as a result heat wave will be reflected and your home will be cooled instead of absorbing heat wave. You can place this temporary window reflector on this room windows where you spend most of the time.

8.Cover window which receive morning and afternoon sun:
Even you are using window reflector you can also use awning and louvers on your home for those room which receive morning and afternoon sun. Awning and louvers reduce heat wave more then eighty percent as a result your home will stay cool.



9.Keep yourself well hydrate:
Keeping yourself well hydrate will help you to become healthy by preventing lots of diseases which buildup for dehydration from heat wave in summer. You can take four cup of water per hour as a result you will not suffer dehydration diseases. You should avoid alcohol and hot drinks. You should not take four cup of water at a time. Take each cup of water after fifteen minute later otherwise you can feel discomfort. Even if you don’t feel thirsty then also you should drink water as above mentioned. If you have heart, epilepsy, liver or kidney disease then you should consult with doctor before drink much water.


 
10.Appropriately eat:
Keep eating is most important cause your adapt eating habit at temperature will be helpful for you. You should take meals several times a day like well balance and light meals instead of heavy three time meals. You should not take food which is rich in protein like meats and nut. You should take fresh fruit, vegetables, salads and healthy snacks. If you are sweating much then take salty water but don’t take salty tablet unless you doctor prescribe it.

11.Stay inside and be cool:
Keeping yourself inside home will protect you from heat wave diseases. As a result your body will not be exposed by sun. You can stay coolest room of your home. Try to find out coolest room at your home and spend as much time as you can there. Taking showers with cool water will maintain your body’s good temperature.

12.Use air-condition:
if you have air-condition in home then you can feel comfort but if not then you can find out nearest
local cooling center who are helping people. If you don’t know about it then you can contact local power company for cooling center or search it to internet. If you can’t find out then use your table fan cause it will give you little comfort.

13. Appropriate dress for hot weather:
Try to use white color cloth instead of colorful dress. Colorful dress absorb more heat than white dress. Use light weighted dress than heavy weighted dress. Use cotton dress instead of polyester and flannel. If you go outside then use sunscreen for avoiding sunburn. Use sunglasses to protect your eyes. Protect your head by using wider well ventilated white hat.

14.Avoid hardy work and exercise:
Try to avoid hardy work and exercise as much as possible. Basically eleven AM to three PM. If you do work then you will be dehydrated and you can be sick any time. So avoid this work on this time to be hydrate. If you outside then go with some one.

15.Check your family, friends and neighbor:
Try to check your family, friends and neighbor condition to heat wave especially who are more vulnerable to heat wave. If you found someone is affected to heat wave then try to help this person.


 
16.Don’t leave your child or pet in parked cars:
Car absorb heat so you should not leave your child or pet on parked cars. Car absorb more heat and within few minute it temperature can goes fifty degree Celsius which is enough to kill anyone. Always keep your eye on your children. If you accidentally lock your someone in car and you are unable to unlock then immediately contact emergency service.

17.Look your family member very closely:
Try to look your family member very closely. If you see anyone of your family member fall in sick then immediately contact with emergency service.

18.Symptoms of heat exhaustion:
If you see any symptoms of heat exhaustion like nausea, headache, muscle cramps, heavy sweating,frazzle then immediately contact emergency service.

19.Treat heat exhaustion:
If you see someone is exhausted to heatwave then take him cool place, give him cool water, if possible give cool shower and remove excessive cloth. If condition is not improve then immediately contact emergency service.

20.Identify heatstroke and treat it:
if you see someone body temperature is goes up and not falling more than thirty minute then you should immediately contact emergency service. Nausea, headache, muscle cramps, heavy sweating,
frazzle and red skin is symptoms of heatstroke.

21.Take action when you are waiting for medical assistance:
when you see someone is attack by heatstroke and you are waiting for medical assistance then you should take some action like take him a cool place, give him cool water, remove excessive cloth, increase ventilation by using table fan, cover his body with cold towels and apply ice packs on back, neck, armpits and groin.

22.Protect your pet from heat illness:
If you see heat illness in your pet then you should take it cool place, give fresh cool water. Drooling is another symptoms of heatstroke. Rapid breathing, flat skin and panting is another symptoms of heatstroke. Always keep fresh water outside of home as a result if pet need water then it will be able to take it on right time.
